Hilltop Redbud | Flower clad Element defiant Exposed survivor |
I
t was an impressive year for Redbud blossoms, which are strikingly conspicuous in the early spring because flowering occurs before most other trees form leaves. I really like the magenta pink clusters of small flowers which cling close to the bark delineating intricate branch patterns. On our recent visit to the Konza Prairie, not only were Redbuds scattered amongst other trees in protected stands in the ravines and along waterways, but occasionally one like this would be isolated out in the open grassland. They must be sturdy to survive the yearly managed burn-offs that are part of the natural prairie life cycle.
