On shaky ground

A ll is not well. Dystopias are descriptions of perilous and alienating future societies based on extrapolating cultural movement. As large and heavily populated undeveloped countries of the world are now rushing towards a metropolitan model at unprecedented rates, the wisdom and sustainability of this dense concentration is uncertain. China's urbanization rate doubled between 1980 and 2005 to 44 percent and is predicted to reach 66 percent by 2025. Over this relatively short 20 year time frame, the number of urbanites will increase by 350 million to a total of 926 million. Such a rapid transformation will inflict enormous strain.

“I saw the buildings like a vertical curtain, opalescent, and very light. Filling the back of the stage, hanging from a sinister sky, in order to dazzle, to diffuse, to hypnotize.” - Fritz Lang
