A single characteristic used to identify a more complex model informs cognitive processing. Objects that repetitively appear in a specific context become known as symbols for the whole concept. This notion relates to the Gestalt effect where visual recognition of whole forms is inferred from an incomplete collection of simple lines and curves. Conscious experience entails all physical and mental aspects of the perceived environment simultaneously as an organization of dynamic interaction.
