ately I have been shifting between two different stylistic image capture modes. One involves extreme precision to make a tightly controlled series of overlapping shots for panoramic stitching. A slow and deliberate approach requiring contemplation and elaborate equipment setup and manipulation, the result is a formal composition featuring extreme resolution.
The other is a brisk “point and expose” method using minimalist fixed-focus lenses. I fabricate these lenses in my optical laboratory with or without aperture control. This style results from a very free-flowing technique with swift composition based on a rapid impression of the essence of a subject. Oscillating between these two diverse styles seems to strengthen both ends of a functional spectrum.
“Style has no formula, but it has a secret key. It is the extension of your personality.” - Ernst Haas
