ourney in a strange land. Here is an image that demonstrates the transformative powers of photography. This was shot on a shore line of Smithville Lake as a panorama of six consecutive overlapping images with a 12mm rectilinear lens. Because none of the auto-stitching software I currently own will work with images from anything wider than 28mm, I had to “manually” stitch these in Photoshop. The result is a compressed horizontal landscape physically different than actuality but which somehow distills the ambiance and emotional feeling of being there better than other more faithful geometric renderings shot on the occasion.
