Walk On | Crisp cold Crunch underfoot Distinct path forward |
S
till tapping into images shot on a cold December morning at the Konza Prairie, I am reminded of a thoroughly enjoyable visit. This native prairie preserve is jointly owned by The Nature Conservancy and Kansas State University and is operated as a biological field research station. The visually agreeable sloped topography is covered with shallow limestone soils unsuitable for cultivation. The preserve is part of the larger Flint Hills region, a narrow swath which runs through eastern Kansas from near the Nebraska border south into northeastern Oklahoma, encompassing the largest residual unplowed North America tallgrass prairie.
