Spring Hill Barn

   Winter hay storage
Stable stalls
Ranch support

O ne of the most impressive barns encountered during my travels, this massive limestone structure is located at the Tallgrass Prairie National Preserve in Kansas. So far I have visited this site twice, once in the blazing heat of summer, and once in the frigid cold of winter. Experiencing these seasonal extremes helps to give a sense of the pioneer's daily struggle to survive on the prairie in the 1880's. Of course most homesteaders would not have had the resources to operate on such a magnificent scale.

“The ranch was raw land when I bought it and, for better or worse, I have designed every aspect of it from the corrals, the arena, to the barn, to the house.” - Janine Turner
