TreeFeathers

   Shaft bristles
Close and tight
Epidermal growth

A t a roadside rest stop in western Tennessee sits these three trees. I like their flat shapes juxtaposed against the increasingly stormy sky. I am not sure of their species, but suspect it could be identified solely by the distinctive growth profile. If I get the opportunity to be in the area during the summer season, I will revisit the site and check out the leaves.

“Character is like a tree and reputation like a shadow. The shadow is what we think of it; the tree is the real thing.” - Abraham Lincoln
