L omographische AG is an Austria distribution company that manufactures and markets products and services related to analog photography. Lomography cameras are deliberately low-fidelity, cheaply constructed apparatuses made of plastic. The Holga is probably the most famous of these offerings and enjoys a legion of fervent users. The SuperSampler is another such camera that features multiple lenses and a “rip-cord” film advance/shutter-cocking system. Each photo is a panoramic consisting of 4 frames captured sequentially in 0.2 seconds. Movement of subject and camera establishes the visual relationship between frames as the event unfolds.

I bought several of these in hopes of extracting the lenses and mounting them in some modified fashion on my Canon 5D. But regrettably the back focal distance (distance from the vertex of the last optical surface of the system to the rear focal point) was too short. But the same effect can be produced digitally by shooting in burst mode and combining the results in subsequent post processing steps.

“When you're experimenting you have to try so many things before you choose what you want, and you may go days getting nothing but exhaustion.” - Fred Astaire
