Aesthetic adornment

T he desire to move from pure utility to decorative embellishment is a distinctive humanistic trait. When taken to the extreme it results in fine art that exists solely as an end onto itself. Occasionally an architectural structure will reach this status, like the Saint Louis Arch or the Washington Monument. But most buildings must function as practical centers of activity as well as aesthetic experiences. I enjoy observing this mix and how different designers accommodate these divergent needs.

This is another shot taken at the Technology College at Pittsburg State University. I just published a coffee table book of images shot over a two day period while I was attending the Four State Technical Conference. If you are interested, on-demand copies can be ordered.

“First, study the present construction. Second, ask for all past experiences …study and read everything you can on the subject.” - Thomas Alva Edison
