Sheer Ubiquity

   Constructed nature
Existing independently
Multiple influence model

O ne of photography's cultural characteristics is the persistent faith that it represents reality with exactness and fidelity. Like all visual imagery, however, photography possesses an iconography that is a constructed form of communication. As with any idiom, the receiver supplies most of the emblematic content based on associations activated by the sensory input. It is important not to forget the essential role of the viewer.

“Photography is a language. Each photograph exists in a halo of whispers. We must discipline ourselves to hear them.” - Shannon Love
