Landing

   Intermediate platform
Flight of stairs
With a view

I have been photographing stairs for a long time. I like them both as visual constructs and metaphorically as they relate to levels and the journey between. Like all man made artifices, they exist on a continuum ranging from the functional to the aesthetic. Architects will often use stairways as signature statements about the spaces they create. The Zenitar 16mm fish eye lens does a nice job in rendering the feeling of standing on this landing between the first and second floor.

“In architecture as in all other operative arts, the end must direct the operation. The end is to build well. Well building has three conditions: Commodity, Firmness and Delight.” - Henry Watton
