Pawnee Fork | Historic watershed Southeastwardly flow Arkansas River tributary |
M
eandering by Fort Larned, Kansas, the Pawnee Fork is a typical Great Plains waterway with wide shallow banks subject to seasonal flooding. At the time of my visit, rain had been plentiful and the water level was muddy and high, covering the tree trunks. Back in the early frontier days, streams like this were extremely important focal points of human activity. I made several shots off the bridge in both directions, and was most satisfied with this infrared version to the northwest.
“Even the upper end of the river believes in the ocean.” - William Stafford
