Santa Fe Southern

   Vintage railcars
120 year-old spur
Lamy to Santa Fe

A lthough hard to believe today, when railroads were being constructed in the American West, physical confrontations led to years of armed conflict between competing companies, essentially low-level guerrilla warfare. Lots of money at stake in sparsely populated rugged territories.

A short 18-mile branch line of the once huge and now defunct “Atchison Topeka & Santa Fe Railway” is still operated as a tourist passenger attraction and limited freight carrier. Might be fun for $32 coach class round trip.

“Ride a working freight train through high desert scenery on this 4-hour round trip from the historic depot in Santa Fe to Lamy, a sleepy little village 18 miles southeast of Santa Fe and reminiscent of turn-of-the-century Wild West days!” – SFSR website
