Chimayo Cemetery

   Catholic voodoo
Burial ground
After the storm

T his was the second visit to this site on a remarkable afternoon. The first time was in a heavy rain downpour, so severe we didn't get out of our vehicles. The second was much later in the day as the storms passed. The combination of the atmosphere and location made for an extremely eerie experience. Bordered by dwellings, this cemetery is unusual in appearance and relatively unkempt. I felt like I was in another country - or another dimension.

“Nothing exists except by virtue of a disequilibrium, an injustice. All existence is a theft paid for by other existences; no life flowers except on a cemetery.” - Remy de Gourmont
