T he term adobe generally refers to all structures made of unfired earth, usually built with a cast. Contemporary adobe construction is prominent in the Southwest United States and is considered to be folk architecture - the traditional use of materials and forms indigenous to a region or country. Although originally comprised of "bricks" that are usually made with tightly compacted earth, clay, and straw, now the look is achieved with shaped mesh wire covered with wet plaster-like asphalt emulsion material that is dried, sealed and painted.
