ver time many different interpretations of "beautiful" have been applied to art with no universal consensus. Judgments of beauty are simultaneously sensory, emotional, and intellectual. But at its core, beauty can be understood as a result of processing positive perceptions stemming from a stimulus. In this context, the visual system or some higher-order conceptual system processes certain types of sensory input, and then sends a signal to the limbic system releasing gratifying bio-chemicals (e.g., dopamine). The limbic system influences cognition by integrating emotional states with stored memories of physical sensations.
“Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is gracious, if there is any excellence and if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things.” - Phil. 4:8
