esirability can evolve into obscurity. Once thought to embody mysterious properties, mineral springs, spas, and resorts once were thriving businesses. Pertle Springs was one of the better known and more successful mineral water resorts in Missouri, a prominent attraction drawing clients with convenient railroad access. Mineral waters provided “cures” both by ingestion and bathing, treating patients inside and out. Not much curing going on here now, although there are currently over 3000 brands of bottled mineral water available commercially worldwide.
