onsidering the purpose of “conceptual art,” it becomes apparent that classifying it as “fine art” is problematic. The goal of conceptual art is to express and communicate some idea or abstract thought. This category of art therefore exists as a means to an end. On the other hand, the strict definition of fine art is "art for art's sake." Thus the final explanation of fine art is simply the artwork itself, not existing as a means to another end. As one digs deeper to better understand, ambiguities amplify and boundaries blur. Ultimately the value of any art object stems from the effect it has on the consciousness of the creator or viewer.
“It is self-evident that nothing concerning art is self-evident anymore.” - Walt Weaver
