I
am fond of trees, especially those located in the middle of large open fields that are therefore free to grow naturally in all directions. Different species will develop characteristic shapes and sizes that become magnificent at maturity.
Plant leaves reflect most near infrared radiation that ranges from about 700 nm to about 900 nm. Chlorophyll being transparent at these wavelengths will not block this reflectance, therefore an infrared rendering of foliage looks 'white'. Since the open sky contains insignificant intensities of infrared radiation, the sky goes dark and provides stark contrast. The results of monochrome infrared capture of the tree laden landscape are surreal and fantastic.
