Downspout

   To the ground
From the guttering
Vertical rainwater pipe

C omposed as a single frame diptych, here is a geometric abstract extraction of a common building corner being struck by low angle light. On the left side, receding horizontal lines strongly converge while being illuminated by a perpendicular light source. On the right side, the light rakes parallel across the surface casting shadows and revealing detail. The mortised brick and cinder block juncture is a dominant visual element. This effort is another example of my desire to photographically make something out of nothing.

“Photography is a preserving of commonly perceived appearances achieved with the use of physical, chemical and mechanical processes, as the result of which we receive a plane covered with color spots, ordered in a certain way. The ordering of these spots causes a viewer the illusion of three-dimensional objects in space.” - Alfred Ligocki
