fter being closed for 25 years, the historic President Hotel in KC reopened in January 2006 and retains much of its original character after a $45 million renovation.
The President originally opened in 1926 and was the site of national political conventions and a venue for famous entertainers. It closed in 1980 and stood vacant for years amid conflicting proposals for demolition or preservation. Added to the National Register of Historic Places, the original hotel had 453 rooms while the refurbished version features 213 rooms. The modern traveler needs more space and amenities.
“Stare. It is the way to educate your eye, and more. Stare, pry, listen, eavesdrop. Die knowing something. You are not here long.” - Walker Evans
