Great oaks from little acorns grow

S everal oak species, in both the black or red oak group, keep their dried dormant leaves into and through the winter. This is especially true of young trees under 20 feet tall that will often be covered with leaves year-round. In the spring, when new leaves come out, the old leaves finally fall. I like this adaptation, and enjoy the visual variety it provides in cold drab landscapes.

“Eventually I discovered for myself the utterly simple prescription for creativity; be intensely yourself. Don't try to be outstanding; don't try to be a success; don't try to do pictures for others to look at - just please yourself.” - Ralph Steiner
