Maid Rite

   Road food since 1926
Heap of pebbly beef
Piled into a bun

O n a recent trip with a colleague to Lexington MO, we encountered this old fast food remnant from the past. I spent a fair amount of time composing with my new 16mm Zenitar fisheye, while Terry explored other details, like the drive-up menu ordering pedestals. After a while, up comes a concerned fellow in a van that was most worried about our activities. Turns out he was the proprietor of the establishment, and had received a phone call from somebody that had seen our “suspicious” behavior. So we allayed his fears, engaged in a nice historical chat, and later returned when he opened to have lunch.

“If you haven't tasted a Maid-Rite loose meat sandwich you haven't lived!” - Mick McCambridge
