Joyful exuberance

A period of general relaxation, feasting, gaiety, and regulation defiance, the winter festival customarily is the most popular yearly cultural celebration. It is the "best of days," according to the ancient influential Roman poet Catullus, in part because less agricultural work is required during winter. Historically this activity also involved sun worship, and coincided with the winter solstice. Since virtually all life on earth is totally dependent on the sun, if compelled to worship something, the star of our solar system is an excellent choice. Of course there are more than 100 million G2 class stars in our galaxy.

“My first priority when taking pictures is to achieve clarity. A good documentary photograph transmits the information of the situation with the utmost fidelity; achieving it means understanding the nuances of lighting and composition, and also remembering to keep the lenses clean and the cameras steady.” - Sam Abell
