ade last month in Truman State Park, fall foliage is exceedingly transient. To capture the emotions and overall impressions of the moment, I employed a technique first developed during my RIT days. Back then I would make a double exposure with the camera on a tripod. Each exposure would be underexposed so the combination was correct. One exposure was made in focus. The second exposure was made out of focus. For this second exposure, the degree of wandering off the original focal point was determined based on aesthetic evaluation of viewfinder information. Updating this to digital, simply make two exposures and combine them in an image editor at 50% opacity.
