Behind the Curve

   Deviation from straightness
Continuous smooth contour proportions
Coordinate plane trend derivation function

W orking near and far relationships, sharp and smoothly blurred, natural forms traverse the image plane. These graceful curved arcs are the leaves of the common cattail, a tall, thin, slender plant that bears a brownish tan club like spike. Catails grow in shallow fresh water areas in dense stands; these are located on the edge of one of the small ponds at Pertle Springs.

“One advantage of the discovery of the Photographic Art will be, that it will enable us to introduce into our pictures a multitude of minute details which add to the truth and reality of the representation, but which no artist would take the trouble to faithfully copy from nature.” - William Henry Fox Talbot
