Extant

   Still in existence
Not destroyed, lost, or extinct
Thus available to be studied

A s I explore my surroundings, I am interested in objects and scenes that represent a portal to the past. Here in Missouri there are many buildings that have endured the test of time. Some are surprising in that they obviously are relatively flimsy, and have been so since their inception. Many old agriculture buildings are wooden frame construction units with corrugated metal siding. The corrugations increase the bending strength of the sheet in the direction parallel to the corrugations, but not across them. The sheets are also usually galvanized to prevent rusting. Somehow these structures survive and in many cases are still in use. I like them for both their visual characteristics and for their tenacity.
