s I wander around the carnival midway, I am struck by how operationally unappealing most of the rides seem to be. It is hard to understand why anyone would want to climb into these contraptions and subject themselves to brief periods of erratic aggressive motion and excessive noise. Of course, the blissful and willing participants probably don't understand why I am “taking pictures.” Occasionally my camera unnecessarily worries the operators and owners of the garish devices. Maybe they think I am a safety inspector.
