Peony

Aromatic attractor of ants and hummingbirds
Slightly toxic with medicinal properties
Variants bloom in different hues

E xtreme close-ups of flower blossoms allow for an exploration of the synthesis of abstraction and representation. This subject was exploited extensively by Georgia O'Keeffe, widely regarded as one of the greatest painters of the 20th century. She painted her first large-scale flower painting in 1924, Petunia, No. 2,, which was first exhibited in 1925. Today's image is in the spirit, if not the style, of Georgia.

“Then glut thy sorrow on a morning rose,
Or on the rainbow of a salt sand-wave,
Or on the wealth of globèd peonies”
- John Keats
