inimalism is conjuring-up something out of nothing: a visual assembly signifying only itself - simple existence. In this case, invoking simplification by concentrating on rectangular and cubic forms purged of all metaphor, equality of parts, repetition, neutral surfaces, industrial materials, all of which contributes to austere visual energy. As described by Theo van Doesburg in his Art Concrete manifesto:
| - Art is universal.
- The work of art should be entirely conceived and formed by the mind before its execution. It should receive nothing from Nature's formal properties or from sensuality or sentimentality...
- The picture should be constructed entirely from purely plastic elements, that is to say, planes and colors. A pictorial element has no other significance than "itself", and therefore the picture has no other significance than "itself".
- The construction of the picture should be simple and controllable visually.
- Technique should be mechanical, exact, anti-impressionistic.
- Strive for absolute clarity.
