Peel

   Banana skin
Impulsive craze
Subsequent phase

Y ellow against blue against gray. The happenstance arrangement of a discarded banana peel, symbolic of the disregard many of the inhabitants of this region have for their environment. They do not mind creating and living in squalor, and could care less about the impact of their behavior on the rest of the community.

Fruit takes 2 years to biodegrade. Smokers are atrocious offenders. Cigarettes contain poisonous chemicals harmful to animals and the environment. They contribute to several thousand fires each year, and take up to 5 years to degrade. Cleaning up litter costs about nine times more than it costs to collect trash from public and private trash receptacles. Most of it is not cleaned-up.

Every morning after my run, I walk around my home and yard and pick up the nightly litter. This is one of the somber disadvantages to living in this particular small Midwestern town.
