his image is a companion piece to yesterday's post. It also was shot in Higginsville on the same day, but in a different part of town. Rather than receiving direct sun, this subject was in the shade and therefore more diffusely lit. Part of this old structure had been recently demolished, and I photographed the remains. Shape relationships and textures are again the main meditation.
This imagery represents an ongoing experimentation in deriving a formal aesthetic from decaying and dilapidating facades and cityscapes. In this case, I seek to discover pictorial schemas manifest in the natural reduction and deterioration inherent in aged objects. It is possible to create meaningful contemplative imagery from almost any perceptual source, regardless of time, place or theme. Subject matter is secondary to artistic expression.
“I never question what to do, it tells me what to do. The photographs make themselves with my help.” - Ruth Bernhard
