oday's image is another capture of a flower from my small backyard garden. I like these plants and photographed this same bunch last year, but did not get as close. You can see that effort here. It is entertaining to view objects magnified thru a macro lens, and often it is surprising what you find.
One feature that separates photographic imaging from other image-making techniques is the issue of focus. By controlling aperture size and the plain-of-focus, we can achieve sharp and unsharp areas in our images based on spatial relationships. Bokeh refers to the appearance of the out-of-focus areas. The visual characteristics of the out-of-focus areas are affected by the optical quality inherent to a particular lens. The combination of lens bokeh as it relates to areas in sharp focus adds a three-dimensional quality to the image.
“It is not the language of painters but the language of nature which one should listen to. . . . The feeling for the things themselves, for reality, is more important than the feeling for pictures.” - Vincent Van Gogh
