Awning

   Stretched taunt
Straight stripes curved
Backlit flush

A graphic image captured from under a canopy in front of a store. This was the most interesting thing I could find on this particular street at this particular time. I was after the starkness of the monochrome design, diagonally divided from approximate corner to corner, described in sharp and accurate detail. By framing selection, abstracting and flattening the space, removing obvious contextual identify.

“According to poststructuralist views, there is no unmediated “objective” access to reality, truth, and knowledge. Representations are only human constructs, which are historically, ideologically, politically, and linguistically engaged. The visual character of contemporary culture – self-referentiality, autonomy of images, and problematization of reality - are also among the central issues of the postmodernist discourse.” - Ekaterina Klevitsky
