ccasionally I find a subject that incorporates opposite ends of a conceptual continuum. Like for example complex minimalism.
Minimalism is a form of art in which objects are stripped down to their elemental distillation of form, and presented in an impersonal manner. In today's image I have three spare horizontal rectangles, precise and hard-edged, stretching from edge to edge.
A visual economy complemented by surface description, only a few elements of existence as opposed to the full spectrum, void of unnecessary distractions.
The aim of minimalism is to allow the viewer to experience the work more intensely through undemanding composition, theme and so on. The object as an object – it is what it is and the viewer must accept it as nothing more. But on closer examination complexity unfolds in the material detail. It is an argument that starts with its conclusions, ending where it begins, at the edge of a precipice. Every response culminates in a turnaround.
“The more minimal the art, the more maximum the explanation.” - Hilton Kramer
