Porch Sphere

Three-dimensional analogue of a circle

O ne more sphere. The responsiveness of digital photography is extremely seductive. This time I went out and shot some photographs specifically for converting into spheres. The ability to capture images, quickly process those images, and then evaluate their effectiveness is fantastic. Immediately turning around this knowledge and experience on subsequent shoots produces latent image captures better tuned to the desired outcome.

This porch on the front of an extremely small house is painted all white. It also has many horizontal and vertical lines that I have found work well with the technique. This time when processing I used a Photoshop filter from Flaming Pear called Flexify to create the sphere. This filter provides much greater control over the spherical parameters than simply using polar coordinates, while simultaneously allowing for a larger range of results.
