Overland

Loom large
Beneath faience skies

A nother of my many visual interests is abstract landscapes. Here I found one that was conveniently labeled and ready-made. Generally when man-made artifacts are neglected over time they degrade in organic fashion. It is extremely pleasurable to extract images that are satisfying from unlikely subjects.

Back when I started the Image of the Day Association, I was concerned that the image well would run dry as enormous demand is placed on the supply chain. But the opposite is what has happened. Creating images on a relentlessly demanding schedule drives the creative impulse, while it broadens the visual horizon. Of all the many things I have done in photography and imaging over the years, creating and posting an image every day has provided the greatest growth and skill expansion.

“Very often people looking at my pictures say, 'You must have had to wait a long time to get that cloud just right (or that shadow, or the light).' As a matter of fact, I almost never wait, that is, unless I can see that the thing will be right in a few minutes. But if I must wait an hour for the shadow to move, or the light to change, or the cow to graze in the other direction, then I put up my camera and go on, knowing that I am likely to find three subjects just as good in the same hour.” - Edward Weston
