A cool wind blows under ominous skies, as I wandered around the old warehouses stalking photographs. Sometimes the image capture process seems almost like a sport, where the rules change as the scenery and lighting varies during the journey. And although the location shooting experience is rewarding, at various venues there is a need to be aware of visual possibilities while remaining diligent for potential hazards.

Generally the intrusion and interruption is human interference, either from illegitimate or from “official” sources. The presence of a camera seems to have a potent negative affect on many and frequently I am questioned by people suspicious of my intent. Attempting to explain the purpose of my photography as the creation of fine art images rarely satisfies the questioner. This problem has gotten much worse since 911 and the war on terror. Apparently expensive cameras, lenses and tripods are the primary tools used by your average terrorist. In these nervous times, shutter-snapping activities seem to pose a threat to national security. Does this mean the terrorists have won?
