I am always working on many different visual themes in parallel. This results in “the image series”. A sequence of related images from the same artist created over time that comprise a body of work as a whole, but where each image can also function as a standalone statement. This approach contributes to the on-going allure of image making as a life long quest.
“Never have I found the limits of the photographic potential. Every horizon, upon being reached, reveals another beckoning in the distance. Always, I am on the threshold.” - W. Eugene Smith
A nice feature of the series is that the audience doesn't need to have access to the entire sequence for appreciation, but will enjoy a richer experience through inclusive contact. By translating personal concepts into the language of photography, it addresses possible answers to persistent questions.
Occasionally a single image incorporates multiple thoughts or themes from different threads. Today's image is a good example, in that it incorporates a number of interests. I am involved in exploring letters and words as symbols and how they relate to other visual elements. I view windows as portals into other realms, and appreciate the filtering and layering effects of transparent and translucent objects. I like older objects and their relative value, or lack of value, in current culture. And of course I am always on the lookout for strong and interesting light.
