Ordinary

   Everyday objects
Structured in interesting clusters
Selective array and focus

F or some time I have been interested in making interesting images out of subjects that seem to lack any potential. This approach allows for great versatility in that it opens up an endless stream of visual source material. I plan on exploring this concept extensively this year, really trying to expand on my visual vocabulary.

"The whole visible universe is but a storehouse of images and signs to which the imagination will give a relative place and value; it is a sort of pasture which the imagination must digest and transform."
- Charles Baudelaire

This image is an example of this concept. No doubt previously I would have passed by this scene without a nanosecond of consideration. But I was thinking about color fields, responded to the yellow post and noticed the color and shape relationships of the parked cars. I made several handheld shots while focusing on different planes, considering the out-of-focus areas more than the in-focus areas. Post processing in Photoshop with these different shots placed on different layers using masks resulted in this composite.

Commonly we do not simply see. Always an intervening filter of thoughts, conclusions, and opinions modify our view. To really see there must be an inner quietness and liberty from precincts - a relaxed awareness.
